Chelsea have, on Tuesday, provided a fresh update on N’Golo Kante as we gear up for the return of top-flight football in England.

Aston Villa vs Chelsea

We are just over a week away from finally having Premier League football back on our screens.

After a pair of midweek fixtures on June 17th, a full game week, beginning on June 19th will then take place for the first time since mid-March.

Chelsea’s first clash back after an almost three-month break sees them travel to relegation-battling Aston Villa on Sunday the 21st of June.

The capital giants will kick-off the clash 4th in the table. But given how tight things are in the race for a Champions League place, a win vs Dean Smith’s side is almost a necessity for Chelsea.

5th-place Manchester United are currently just three points adrift of Chelsea, whilst Sheffield United could be two points behind Frank Lampard’s outfit by the 21st, should the Blades emerge victorious from their game in hand on the 17th.

Kante back in training

As a result, Lampard and co. will no doubt be keen to have a full squad to call upon when they travel to Villa Park.

One player who Chelsea fans may have feared being without for both the Villa game and perhaps even the rest of the season, though, is N’Golo Kante.

It was reported back in May that the Blues had said they will allow Kante to stay away from training because of coronavirus fears – even if it means him missing the rest of the season.

However, as mentioned above, those who follow Chelsea have, on Tuesday, been granted hope that the Frenchman could yet play a part in the rest of the campaign.

In an official statement on Chelsea’s website, it was confirmed that Kante was back in contact training at Cobham on Tuesday:

N’Golo Kante was back with the main group today at Cobham as training continues to ramp up ahead of the Premier League restart next week…

Kante joined in as the team indulged in a series of different skill activities using various props. The midfielder looked sharp as he took part in a series of rondos before finding the net with a smartly placed shot in the practice game.

Great to see @nglkante back with the main group today!
