Mason Mount has recently been speaking about his debut campaign in a Chelsea shirt.

Mount’s breakthrough year

Mount, now 21, is one of a number of Chelsea youngsters to benefit from the arrival of Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge.

Mount had spent the previous campaign plying his trade on loan in the Championship with Derby County, the side Lampard was managing at the time.

And the now Chelsea gaffer clearly liked what he saw from the England international as Mount has been handed a very prominent role for the capital outfit this term.

In fact, despite Mount having zero top-flight experience under his belt before 2019/20, Lampard has called on the attack-minded midfielder a staggering 51 times already this term.

Mount assesses his 2019/20 with Chelsea

Mount had a few up and down patches this term with his goal contributions drying up in certain parts of the season.

But Mount’s ability was still clear with his game much more than goals and assists.

Now, ahead of the 2019/20 FA Cup final, in which Mount’s Chelsea take on Arsenal, the midfielder has been speaking about his debut season as a Blue.

Speaking in an interview with The Guardian, Mount was asked to rate his season out of ten, to which he responded:

“It’s difficult. But because I have got seven goals I will give myself seven out of 10. I’m a big self-critic and I know there is room for improvement.”

Mount added:

“It’s gone well. I always speak to my dad before a season starts and we set goals and one of those was 10 goals. Dad’s very hard on me and is my biggest critic, so 10 is always going to be the target. He has said that my whole life. If you are averaging 10 goals as a midfielder you are having a good season.”
