An update on Chelsea’s pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz has been forthcoming online this week.
The name of 21-year-old Havertz has of course proven a mainstay in the European media for several months now.
Following another stellar campaign at the BayArena, during which he racked up 18 goals and 9 assists, the attacking midfielder has been named as a summer target for a whole host of European heavyweights.
The likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester United have all been named as potential destinations, with Havertz widely regarded as one of world football’s most promising young players.

No club, however, have been more persistently linked with a move for the German starlet than Chelsea.
The Blues are in the process of a major rebuild ahead of the 2020/21 campaign, and have of course already secured the services of both Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.
Havertz, meanwhile, appears to be the next piece in Frank Lampard’s potentially potent attacking puzzle, with reports having seen Chelsea tipped for an imminent big-money swoop.
Updates on the situation, however, have been in short supply of late.
Bayer Leverkusen’s Europa League exit last week was expected to see Chelsea step up their efforts to land Havertz, with a deal having been viewed as very much in the pipeline.
To this point, though, there has been little to suggest that further progress has been made towards an agreement.
And, as outlined above, a significant update has been forthcoming in the German media over the last 24 hours.
The news comes courtesy of the reliable BILD, who claim that Leverkusen have set a deadline of the 28th of August for Chelsea to meet their demands.
This is the date upon which the Bundesliga outfit are due to begin pre-season training.
It is added that Havertz himself remains intent on moving on this summer, with Chelsea still viewed as the outright favourites to land the midfielder.
