Ceballos clinches Arsenal return

Arsenal would, on Friday, announce their latest summer transfer coup, following the arrival of Willian and Gabriel.

The Gunners’ latest addition was Dani Ceballos, who has re-joined Arsenal on a season-long loan from Real Madrid.

The Arsenal faithful will, of course, already be familiar with the Spaniard as he spent last campaign plying his trade on loan at the Emirates.

Ceballos endured something of a mixed stint in north London last time out, but the midfielder certainly came into his own towards the end of the season – putting on some superb displays and forming a solid partnership with Granit Xhaka.

Ceballos praises Arteta

Ceballos’ form at Arsenal last season began to take a rather dramatic upturn when Mikel Arteta took the reins.

The 24-year-old was not an instant starter under his countryman, but once Ceballos was afforded a chance to impress his new boss, he certainly didn’t look back.

Now, after returning to Arsenal for a second season, Ceballos has been heaping praise on his current manager, who looks to have played a key role in convincing the Real Madrid man to return to England.

First up, Ceballos revealed that he did have several options available to him this summer, but he told Arteta before the FA Cup final that he wanted to stay at Arsenal, whilst also mentioning how happy he has been under the Spaniard:

“It’s true that I had other options, such as staying at Real Madrid and going back to the Spanish league, where there were teams interested in me. “I spoke to the coach last year, before the [Emirates FA Cup] final, and told him that I wanted to stay at Arsenal and win titles.

“I’d been really happy with what Mikel had built at the club since he came in. I had a great time at this club last season and there was never any doubt in my mind that I wanted to come back.”

Ceballos then went on to voice the opinion that Arteta is the right man to get Arsenal back where they belong, which according to the midfielder, is in the Champions League:

“I think everybody can see what Arteta is doing at the club. He’s only been here for eight months. There were three competitions we could fight for. We got knocked out of the Europa League, unfairly in my view, but then we won the FA Cup and the Community Shield, which were well-deserved titles.

“More than that, though, it’s about what he’s created here – there’s real positive energy in the dressing room, the players are happy and everyone is doing their bit. We’re bringing through young players, which I think is really important for this club, because it’s something that’s always been done here.

“Mikel is the right person to get this club back to where it deserves to be, which I believe is in the Champions League, competing against the best teams in Europe.”
