“Sloppy at times”

If there ever was a player to sum up winning mentality with a continual strive for improvement, Jordan Henderson and his comments after the game against Crystal Palace in which Liverpool came out 7-0 victors go some way to proving he might just be that.

Henderson got on the scoresheet during a Liverpool performance which simply blew away a Crystal Palace side devoid of defensive security and any of the resistance which was on show against Spurs last week.

Goals from Sadio Mane, Takumi Minamino, Roberto Firmino, Henderson himself and two from Mohamed Salah, despite not even starting, sent Liverpool 6 points clear at the top.

But Henderson wanted more from his side, he described their performance as ‘sloppy at times’ and that was partly evident in the first half. After taking an early lead, Crystal Palace was certainly the more dominant side right up until Liverpool’s second around the 35-minute mark. Palace had several chances to equalise including a fantastic opportunity for Jordan Ayew to cut the ball back for Wilfried Zaha.

“I thought we were sloppy at times, but overall delighted”

“Mo’s was a fantastic finish, this has been coming…”

It is always a scary thought to think Liverpool could be any better this season based upon the performance which viewers were treated to. As ever, the side which tops the league at Christmas is always one of the favourites to take the title at the end of the season. Even were it not to be the last game before the 25th of December, it is no doubt this Liverpool side are again pushing for a second league title in a row.

“Today it clicked”

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was much more open to appreciating the fantastic performance which his side put on. After a battling performance against Spurs in which they also came out as eventual victors, it would have been a great relief to see his side put away a team as convincingly as they did today.

Speaking after the game Klopp admitted that it just clicked for the Reds.

“The boys are capable of doing that, it won’t happen every week, but it can happen and today it clicked,” he said.

“A very intense period for the boys. The boys should be really proud of how they came through that result-wise, performance-wise. We will recover tomorrow and then start preparing for West Brom.”

Liverpool will face a West Brom team which may not be as leaky as it previously had been under Slaven Bilic. Sam Allardyce has taken over the job for the Baggies and has the key intention of keeping his side in the league. Knowing the attacking might of Liverpool, he will likely go for a more defensive style of play in comparison to his Crystal Palace counterpart Roy Hodgson.
