A January exit from Old Trafford for Brandon Williams is looking increasingly likely after a new side joined the race to sign him on loan.
Williams has become something of the forgotten man of the Manchester United squad this season following Alex Telles’ arrival from FC Porto.
Having played 36 matches for the Red Devils last term and firmly establishing himself as a fan favourite, this season the 20-year-old has started just two Carabao Cup games and made two other substitute appearances, leaving Solskjaer admitting that the player needs more game time.
‘That’s something we’ll look at in January but we highly rate Brandon,’ Solskjaer said this week.
‘Whoever’s interested, they’re not wrong.’
And that ‘whoever’ could be German side Bayer Leverkusen, according to The Telegraph.
‘Leverkusen, who are top of the Bundesliga, are among those who want him on a minimum six-month loan,’ the outlet reports.
‘Leverkusen signed Colombia right-back Santiago Arias on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid in the summer but he suffered a horrific leg break in October, leaving Peter Bosz looking at options.’
The Germans will reportedly face opposition from Southampton to sign Williams, who ‘retain an interest as Ralph Hasenhuttl looks to bolster his defence when the transfer window opens in a fortnight.’
Solskjaer suggested that the full-back had not been in the team for reasons that were not to do with his performances for the team-
‘Brandon has done really well since he came into the team. He had a slow start to the season for different reasons,’ the boss said.
‘I think he is now coming back to more like himself. I’ve enjoyed him more in training, he’s played a couple of 23s games and has been more involved.’
