Ighalo’s Man United stint
Odion Ighalo has been on Manchester United’s books for the best part of a year now.
The Nigerian joined the Red Devils on loan from Chinse outfit Shanghai Shenhua in the previous winter window to provide some much-needed cover at centre-forward.
And though he wasn’t exactly sensational during the remainder of 2019/20, Ighalo did prove a useful asset for United.
He scored three goals in three FA Cup ties as well as two goals and one assist in five Europa League outings.
2020/21, though, has been far from superb for the 31-year-old.
Ighalo to remain in Premier League?
The signing of Edinson Cavani from PSG on a free transfer has seen Ighalo become almost surplus to requirements in Manchester.
And with his loan deal set to expire at the end of this month, it is hard to imagine a scenario in which United extend the African’s stay any further.
However, it does not mean we have seen the last of the centre-forward in the Premier League.
When speaking about his client’s future recently, Ighalo’s representative claimed that some PL teams have made enquires over the striker:
“I can confirm that some Premier League clubs, two teams outside of England and some clubs in the Middle East have made formal enquiries.
“Of course, he said [in an interview] that the MLS could be interesting, but that is just an option outside of the strong interest received so far.
“For now he’s still a Man United player on loan from China where he still has a contract. He could stay in England where his family is based or try something new because he has many options to mull over.”
