Kai Havertz’s Chelsea stint
Kai Havertz joined Chelsea during the delayed summer window for a fairly sizable sum.
The German made the switch to the Premier League on the back of yet another solid campaign in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen.
As a result, despite his age, expectations were high when the 21-year-old made the move to Stamford Bridge.
However, to say Havertz has since underwhelmed during his stint at Chelsea so far would be putting it lightly.
Frank Lampard would often struggle to fit Havertz into his set-up, but even when played in his more favourable position, the German didn’t look at his best.
The midfielder has since featured in two league games under Thomas Tuchel, though he has missed the Blues’ last three outings due to an injury.
Tah backs Havertz to come good at Chelsea
And though it remains to be seen if Tuchel can coax the best out of Havertz, at present, it isn’t looking good.
To date, Havertz has scored just one goal and provided three assists in 18 Premier League ties.
Despite this, one of Havertz’s former teammates, Jonathan Tah, has recently spoken out in favour of him.
The defender urged people to give Havertz time to show his ‘enormous quality’:
“I’ve been watching the Chelsea games regularly since then (the move).
“It’s super interesting because Timo Werner and Antonio Rudiger also play there. I know what qualities Kai has.
“The game there is different than in Germany. There is a lot of talk in such phases: He has to do this and that because he has cost so and so much.
“But that’s nonsense. Give the boy time; then he will show his enormous qualities at Chelsea too. Kai will convince all the critics over there.”
