Arsenal’s supporters have taken to social media in numbers this evening, to react to Boubakary Soumare’s performance in Lille’s crunch meeting with Paris Saint-Germain.

David makes the difference

The marquee fixture of the Ligue 1 weekend took place at the Parc des Princes a short time ago.

The matchup saw title rivals face off, as Mauricio Pochettino’s PSG played host to an impressive Lille outfit.

Ahead of kick-off, the two sides were locked at the summit of the French top-flight, having amassed 63 points apiece.

The champions, though, appeared to showcase their clear superiority just weeks ago, in comfortably ousting Lille from the League Cup by 3 goals to nil.

This evening, however, the game took on a very, very different complexion.

A disappointing PSG showing, during which the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe toiled in their efforts to find the net, eventually saw Lille emerge on the right side of a 1-0 scoreline.

Jonathan David proved the match-winner, heading home with 20 minutes on the clock:

And there was even time for things to go from bad to worse for Pochettino and co. when, as the clash rolled into injury-time, a clearly frustrated Neymar was deservedly sent for an early bath.

Gunners eye Soumare

For Lille, on the other hand, the fairy tale continues.

Les Dogues now sit 3 points clear at the top of Ligue 1, with 31 games played.

On the back of such a stellar result, meanwhile, it has since come as little surprise to see a host of the club’s stars singled out for special praise.

The likes of Jonathan Bamba, Mike Maignan and Benjamin Andre all played starring roles this afternoon, amid a wonderful all-round display.

None, though, shone more brightly than Boubakary Soumare.

The 22-year-old has actually endured a somewhat hit and miss campaign to date, having been moved in and out of Lille’s starting XI by manager Christophe Galtier.

On Saturday, though, Soumare showcased why he has long been viewed as one of the finest up and coming talents in French football.

A top-drawer showing at the heart of the visitors’ midfield saw the ex-PSG youth control proceedings against his former side, courtesy of an elite combination of discipline, pressing and quality.

And one set of fans who could not help but have their attentions piqued by the Frenchman, in turn, were the Arsenal faithful.

On the back of the action coming to a close in Paris, the Gunners faithful flooded to social media, to call on their side to bring Soumare to north London upon the opening of the summer window:
