Bayer Leverkusen vs Schalke

Schalke are set to return to Bundesliga action on Saturday afternoon.

Die Königsblauen are facing off with Bayer Leverkusen in what is likely to prove a fairly one-sided affair.

Leverkusen are currently 6th in the German top-flight and still well in the race for a European spot.

And though Leverkusen haven’t been in great form of late, losing three of their last four, they are still likely to get one over on an awful Schalke side.

Schalke are currently sat dead bottom of the Bundesliga, having amassed just 10 points from 26 ties this term, only one of which they won.

Why Mustafi is out of latest Schalke squad

Schalke are also in possession of by far and away the worst defence in German’s top tier this campaign, conceding a staggering 69 goals ahead of their match on Saturday.

To try and rectify their dismal form and tighten up their defence, Schalke brought in a couple of defenders in the winter transfer window.

Ex-Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi left out of latest Schalke squad for ‘sporting reasons’

One of these was Shkodran Mustafi, who joined on a free transfer after having his Arsenal contract terminated.

The stopper was never the most reliable player whilst on Arsenal’s books, and has already put in some questionable displays for Schalke, including netting the below own goal:

And now, there appears to be some issues off the pitch with Mustafi at Schalke, as he has been left out of the matchday squad to face Leverkusen for what is described as ‘sporting reasons’:
