Viewers of the meeting between Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion this afternoon have taken to social media in numbers, to take aim at BT Sport pundit and former Blues star Joe Cole.
Baggies run riot
Thomas Tuchel’s men were of course back in action a short time ago.
The Pensioners welcomed Sam Allardyce’s West Brom to the capital, for the club’s first outing on the back of the international break.
Chelsea headed into proceedings with 3 points very much on the agenda, with West Brom of course toiling in the Premier League relegation zone, and the capital giants vying for a top-4 berth.
When all was said and done at Stamford Bridge, though, to say that the action did not exactly go according to plan for the hosts would be putting it lightly.
A remarkable 90 minutes eventually saw West Brom emerge on the right side of an eye-watering 5-2 scoreline.
Chelsea actually opened the afternoon’s scoring, when Christian Pulisic found the net inside the opening half hour. Thiago Silva’s dismissal just minutes later, though, quickly saw the tides turn in London.
In turn, all of Matheus Pereira (2), Callum Robinson (2) and Mbaye Diagne went on to notch for an admittedly impressive Baggies outfit, who secured just their fourth 3-point haul of the campaign.
The Baggies are in dreamland! 🔥

For Chelsea, on the other hand, the inquest has inevitably since begun.
A host of the Blues’ stars looked below par throughout the 90 minutes this afternoon, with the likes of Jorginho and the dismissed Silva having been singled out for particularly heavy criticism.
During the post-match analysis session on BT Sport, though, one of those charged with punditry – in the form of Joe Cole – had some choice words of ‘wisdom’ for Thomas Tuchel.
The ex-Chelsea attacker highlighted what he evidently feels is a clear gap in quality between the less high-profile clubs in England, and those in Germany and France, where Tuchel has previously coached:
‘This is a lesson to Tuchel: this isn’t the Bundesliga, this isn’t Ligue 1, this is the Premier League.’
Yessss Joe Cole: “This is a lesson to Tuchel: this isn’t the Bundesliga, this isn’t Ligue 1, this is the Premier League”

To say that Cole’s advice has since not gone down all that well with viewers, particularly those of a Bundesliga and Ligue 1 persuasion, though, would be putting it lightly.
Supporters have flooded to social media to highlight what they feel proved little more than the BT pundit showcasing his ignorance regarding matters outside of the Premier League, with some of the highlights below:
In a season where European champions Bayern Munich lost 4-1 at Hoffenheim, Dortmund lost 5-1 to Stuttgart, Juve were beaten at home by Benevento and PSG by Nantes while Cadiz beat Real Madrid and Barcelona, Joe Cole reckons shock results only happen in the Premier League

Joe Cole peddling the ‘you’re not in the Bundesliga or Ligue 1 now, this is the Premier League,’ line about Thomas Tuchel.
Tuchel’s Dortmund lost to Köln, Darmstadt, and Hamburg.
His PSG team lost to Nantes, Guingamp, and Dijon.
Tired cliché with little basis in fact.

I like Joe Cole too. However, even Ligue 1, let alone the Bundesliga, is producing a more compelling title race than the Premier League this season.

One would guess that Joe Cole hasn’t watched a single Ligue 1 game since he left in 2012. If he had, he’d know that a Chelsea vs West Brom scenario occurred 2 matches ago when Nantes beat PSG or in January vs Lorient. https://t.co/X014qfvV16

(I loved Joe Cole as a footballer and I love him as a pundit too, but that stuff about Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga was nonsense.)

I do not believe for a second that Joe Cole ever watched Tuchel in the Bundesliga or Ligue 1

Joe Cole ‘this ain’t the Bundesliga’ followed by ‘when you’re managing Bayern Munich’ regarding Tuchel couldn’t be more of a stereotype

Joe Cole: ‘Tuchel will learn from this. This isn’t the Bundesliga. This is the premier league’
What does that even mean?? I’m convinced most UK pundits barely watch foreign leagues.

Shocking punditry from Joe Cole, the Bundesliga throws up similar results quite often…let’s not even talk about how he says ‘Diagne’ pic.twitter.com/ff8dWEqvI0
