Reports in Italy have linked Manchester United with Fiorentina defender, Nikola Milenkovic.
Nikola Milenkovic’s Fiorentina stint
The 23-year-old joined Fiorentina in the summer of 2017.
The centre-back left his home country of Serbia – where he had previously been plying his trade with FK Partizan Belgrade – for a reported fee of around £4.5m.
Milenkovic has since gone on to feature 126 times for the Serie A outfit, notching 11 goals and one assist in the process.
The stopper has also managed 26 appearances for Serbia’s senior side for who he made his debut in 2018.
Man United eyeing Milenkovic
Milenkovic, who will have just one year left on his contract in the summer, has been linked with some top Premier League sides.
Both Liverpool and Manchester United were credited with an interest in the Serbian earlier this year.
And now, fresh reports from Italy have once again linked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side with a switch for the defender.
As per Calciomercato, Fiorentina now appear resigned to the idea of losing Milenkovic at the end of this season.
The report adds that both Inter and AC Milan have ‘followed’ Milenkovic in recent months. However, it is Manchester United who the Italian outlet claim are in pole position.
No potential fee is mentioned in the above-linked piece. But given his current contract situation, Fiorentina are not exactly in a great position to demand a huge some from any potentially interested parties.
And though Milenkovic is probably not the huge name central defender must Man United fans may want their side to sign to partner Harry Maguire, landing him on the cheap may help invest more money in other areas of the pitch which they also need to address, such as the right-wing spot, centre-forward and the defensive midfield area.
