Donnarumma offered bumper Juve contract

AC Milan look to be resigned to losing goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer as the Italian goalkeeper’s contract expires at the end of the campaign.

There have been persistent offers shown to the young keeper who has been with the club since coming through their youth system, but offers from outside seem to be dictating his future.

Milan have experienced something of a resurgent season and despite the table looking much different than a few months ago, engaged in their first title race for some time.

Much was down to the qualities of the young keeper and Juventus, who comparatively have had one of their worst league seasons for some time, have seen some high-profile goalkeeping errors.

Gianluigi Buffon is likely to leave this summer also with his contract expiring. Mattia Perin will return from his loan to Genoa.

Juve are said to be offering a €4 million per season increase on Donnarumma’s current contract which would see him earn €10 million each season.

It could be an offer he finds difficult to refuse.

‘Szczesny would leave’

Where does this then leave Polish keeper Wojciech Szczesny?

Having arrived from Arsenal, Szczesny became the understudy to Buffon before taking the number one spot for his own.

However, a mistake in the Champions League last 16 tie with Porto saw the Bianconeri eliminated.

It is this and other errors which have brought the Pole’s position into focus and adjudged to be needing some attention in the transfer window.

Football Italia say, ‘If Donnarumma were to join the Bianconeri, then Wojciech Szczesny would leave.’

Where he could go is yet unknown. Could Arsenal want a return with Bernd Leno under increasing pressure?

The 31-year-old’s deal expires in 2024 meaning Juve would require a significant transfer fee, however, with Donnarumma possibly coming in and the pandemic hitting the club, a lesser fee might be accepted.
