Liverpool vs Newcastle

Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off will see Liverpool and Newcastle United face off.

The tie remains an important one for both outfits for very different reasons.

Jurgen Klopp and co. will start to the game down in 7th place in the Premier League.

However, a win against the Magpies would actually see the Merseysiders climb all the way up to 4th (if they win by at least three).

Granted, Chelsea and West Ham would then have a game in hand on the Reds. But Spurs have already played one more game, meaning Liverpool would take their place in the top-six.

As for Newcastle, they will begin the tie sat 15th in the Premier League, eight points above the relegation zone.

And given the North East outfit have a game in hand on Fulham, securing a point or more against Liverpool would all but guarantee their survival in the PL for another campaign.

Steve Bruce on Newcastle team news

Ahead of Saturday’s tie, Steve Bruce held his latest press conference on Friday.

When doing so, Bruce would provide updates on several of his players.

The Newcastle boss confirmed that though Fabian Schar is recovering well, the weekend’s game may come too soon for him:

“It’s been part of Callum’s rehab that he takes it easier on a Thursday but he’s perfectly OK too. Fab Schär has worked extremely hard and trained all week but the weekend might come a bit too early for him. It’s good to see him back.”

Bruce then stated that Karl Darlow has had a small operation and is out for a few weeks:

“Karl unfortunately has had to have a small operation on his knee so he’ll be out for a few weeks.”
