Arsenal downed by Everton

This weekend’s Premier League action got underway on Friday evening, when Arsenal and Everton faced off.

Heading into the game, Arsenal’s hopes of a top-six finish were already hanging by a thread.

And when all was said and done at the Emirates, those hopes were left dead in the water, with the Gunners’ only chance of securing European football for next season now lying in the Europa League.

Mikel Arteta’s men dominated Friday’s game, and limited Everton to just one shot on target. However, Arsenal were unable to turn their dominance into a goal, and were eventually punished courtesy of a horrendous Bernd Leno error 76 minutes in:

That is an absolute shocker from Leno.

Arsenal without Arsene Wenger

In turn, with the majority of the weekend’s action having now been played out, Arsenal have slipped down to 10th in the Premier League table. They could actually drop as low as 11th if  Aston Villa – who are currently locked in action with West Brom – pick up a win on Sunday.

And, following their latest defeat, a rather concerning stat surrounding the north Londoners’ form post-Arsene Wenger has emerged online.

Wenger’s final few years in the capital were not the most impressive, with Arsenal’s fans having been quite vocal in their efforts to push the Frenchman out:

Such supporters may be regretting their stance now, though, after it was revealed that the maximum number of points their side can mathematically finish on this season is 61 (which in itself seems unlikely). Wenger’s lowest-ever points total as Arsenal boss, in comparison, saw him notch 63.

During his 22 seasons in charge of Arsenal, Arsene Wenger never finished with less than 63 points.
