Manchester United’s U23s got the better of their Chelsea counterparts this weekend, with a pair of up-and-coming Red Devils starlets having stolen the headlines.

Diallo at the double

As Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s senior outfit prepared for a showdown with Leeds, United’s up and coming crop of talent were in Premier League 2 action.

The Reds welcomed Chelsea to Leigh Sports Village, for a highly anticipated clash.

The visiting Blues headed into proceedings boasting the advantage in the table, having sat in 3rd, eight points clear of their hosts.

When all was said and done Manchester, though, United stepped up in a major way, to eventually emerge on the right side of a 4-2 scoreline.

Shola Shoretire and Amad Diallo, both of whom have of course featured as part of the senior setup at Old Trafford of late, proved the stars of the show, bagging a brace apiece.

17-year-old Shoretire first dragged the home side back on level terms, courtesy of the following individual effort on the stroke of the interval:

Then, after the diminutive attacker bagged his 2nd to turn the clash on its head, it was fellow prodigy Diallo’s turn.

The Ivorian put United all but out of sight courtesy of a stunning free-kick twenty minutes from time, before adding some gloss to the scoreline with his 2nd ten minutes later:

As outlined above, meanwhile, on the back of the club’s stars of the future taking care of business, Solskjaer’s first-team squad were back in action earlier today, too.

The Red Devils made the trip to Elland Road, for a highly anticipated Premier League meeting with Leeds United.

Unlike their academy counterparts, though, United simply couldn’t find a breakthrough in West Yorkshire, and were eventually forced to settle for a share of the spoils.

In turn, if the Reds fall to defeat at the hands of Liverpool next weekend, and Man City manage to get the better of Crystal Palace, Pep Guardiola’s Citizens will be officially crowned as English champions once more.

Man City could be champions next Sunday if win at Palace and Utd lose to Liverpool.
