Taking charge of just his second game as Tottenham’s interim head coach, Ryan Mason was unable to win a trophy for his side as they lost 1-0 to Manchester City in the League Cup final.
Spurs have not won a trophy since the League Cup in the late 2000s and the wait for silverware agonisingly continues.
Now out of all competitions, having been eliminated from the FA Cup by Everton and the Europa League by Dinamo Zagreb, all that remains to compete for is a European qualification spot.
“I’ll be completely honest, my mind now is sad because of what’s just happened. My mind isn’t thinking down the line and in football you need to live in the moment,” said Mason after the 1-0 loss.

“My mind is on preparing the team for the next big moment.”
Concerns grew that some of the club’s star players may leave with the hope of trophies at Tottenham diminishing. Mason said the overall feeling inside the dressing room was ‘pain.’
“It’s normal that they’re hurting and it shows that they care and these people feel deeply about this football club. We gave everything today.”
Sarri not coming to Spurs
Maurizio Sarri won his first major trophy in charge of a London club as he triumphed in the Europa League final in 2019 with Chelsea.
Since leaving Juventus, he has been out of work but with Jose Mourinho out the door at Spurs, the Italian had been linked with a move to the club. Yet, this option appears closed.
Massimiliano Allegri had been tipped with the Roma job but it now turns out the executives have decided upon Sarri to be the man to take them forward.

Nagelsmann asks for termination
Spurs had also been linked with RB Leipzig head coach Julian Nagelsmann however it appears that route is also blocked.
According to German outlet Kicker, the young coach has asked the club to terminate his deal in order for him to join Bayern Munich.

Hansi Flick is leaving the German and European Champions to join the DFB and become the nation’s head coach after Joachim Low leaves after the European Championships.
It could cost Bayern significantly with €25 million the compensation figure being touted.
It seems whoever Spurs target, their options are slimming quickly. Could the departing Low become an option for Levy and co?
