Arsenal have this afternoon been dealt a blow on the personnel front, after David Luiz was forced to limp out of the club’s meeting with Newcastle United.
Elneny on target
Mikel Arteta’s men are of course currently locked in action with the Magpies at St. James’ Park.
The Gunners headed into proceedings with little to play for on the domestic front, having long seen their hopes of a top-6 Premier League finish go up in smoke.
In turn, it came as little surprise when Arteta opted to heavily rotate his XI this evening, ahead of Arsenal’s crunch Europa League semi-final 2nd-leg meeting with Villarreal on Wednesday.
And it was one of those drafted into the visitors’ midfield on Tyneside who, as things stand, has proven the difference between the sides.
The player in question? Mohamed Elneny.
After the ball dropped to the edge of the Newcastle area inside five minutes, Egyptian international Elneny was on hand to drive a fine effort beyond Martin Dubravka.
Congratulations to Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny on scoring his first Premier League goal for the club against Newcastle this afternoon.

As outlined above, however, on an otherwise positive afternoon thus far, Arsenal have also been dealt a blow on the personnel front.
This came early in the 2nd-half when David Luiz, who had of course just returned to the pitch on the back of a knee issue, was forced to hobble off once again.
The Brazilian picked up what appeared to be a hamstring problem on this occasion, throwing his participation during the week completely up in the air.
