Mount named player of the year:

Mason Mount has been a key part of what could yet be a brilliant season for Chelsea. The 22-year-old Englishman has missed just two of Chelsea’s Premier League games this season, and has registered six goals and six assists from central midfield. Amazingly, his goal return makes him the joint top-scorer in Chelsea’s side, perhaps a sign of where Thomas Tuchel will be looking to strengthen this summer.

Congratulations, @MasonMount_10!

A worthy winner of the 2020/21 Men’s Player of the Year! 👏

The youngster has also been central to Gareth Southgate’s England setup and looks to have made one of the central midfield positions his own ahead of the upcoming European Championships. He is one of several players that England will need to be on top form for England to have any chance of progressing in the competition, with his dynamism and late runs not something that the national side have a natural replacement for.

Beginning his Chelsea career under Frank Lampard, Mount began to be labelled as something of a teacher’s pet due to the regularity with which he would play despite his age. Others suggested that Lampard saw something of himself in the player. However, the tag has since been shaken off as Mount continued to put in good performances under new manager Thomas Tuchel.

What a season @MasonMount_10‘s having! 🔥

How the fans reacted:

The general reaction across the Chelsea fanbase was a complete lack of surprise. Having watched their side all season, they know better than anyone the effect that Mason Mount has on the Chelsea side, and the extent to which they miss him when he is not playing.

Others pointed to his age, suggesting that he could go on to be one of the best players not just in the Premier League, but in World Football.

He’s our best player.

He’s one of us.

World class.

Our next captain.

Only going to get better.

Mason Mount.

Both Chelsea and England fans will be exited to see what Mount can help England to achieve this summer, with plenty of belief that Southgate has a squad capable of bringing home the trophy.
