Ben White’s Brighton stint
Ben White is a product of Brighton’s youth system. However, the 23-year-old has not yet featured an awful lot for the Seagulls’ senior side.
Instead, White was farmed out on a series of loans, the last of which saw the ball-playing defender seriously impress for Leeds United during their promotion-winning campaign in 2019/20.
Such form, in turn, proved enough for Graham Potter to hand White a chance as part of Brighton’s first-team setup this season.
And the youngster has gone on to grasp the opportunity with both hands, cementing himself as an absolutely integral cog in the club’s backline.
Despite Brighton’s squad, as a whole, not being littered with quality, Graham Potter nevertheless has his side playing some eye-catching, positive football.
White, along with players such as Yves Bissouma, has been key to such exploits, with the Poole-born defender known for his talents on the ball, and more than capable of playing out from the back.
White to earn England call-up?
Now, after a stellar 2020/21 campaign with Brighton, White’s form looks as though it could earn him an England call-up.
The 23-year-old has never featured for the Three Lions at any level.
Despite this, the Sun report that White, who has been asked not to go on holiday after the Premier League season finishes, is in contention for a call-up for Euro 2020.
It is added that Harry Maguire’s injury, along with concerns regarding Eric Dier’s form, have led to Gareth Southgate looking at other options at the back.
Joe Gomez also remains sidelined, leaving England with fairly limited quality options at centre-half.
SunSport understands the ball-playing defender has been told to not to fly off on holiday this week after completing his Premier League season away to Arsenal. https://t.co/DT3fJmgu5G
