Jadon Sancho’s Dortmund stint
Since making the switch to Dortmund in 2017, Jadon Sancho has showcased his ability as one of the brightest young talents in world football.
2019/20 saw the former Manchester City man rack up a staggering 20 goals and 20 assists in 44 outings across all competitions.
And though Dortmund struggled a fair bit throughout large periods of the 2020/21 season, Sancho nevertheless managed to net 16 and provide 20 assists in just 38 appearances.
With several of these contributions coming as Dortmund hammered RB Leipzig 4-1 in the DFB Pokal final, with Sancho scoring two and assisting one.
Man United & Sancho latest
For some time, it has of course been Manchester United who have been viewed as the leading contenders for Sancho, with reports last month having suggested that the Red Devils are still keen on the winger.
This was followed by speculation that Chelsea had launched a bid for the winger.
Now though, a fresh update from The Athletic does seem to suggest Man United are the club who are showing the most interest in getting a deal for Sancho over the line.
According to a report from Laurie Whitwell on Friday, Man United are pressing ahead with talks to sign Sancho amid rising expectations that an agreement can be reached.
It is added that the Red Devils have been given encouragement that Dortmund would be willing to accept a lower amount than their asking price last summer, which is said to have been around €120m.
Whitwell goes on to explain that United are prepared to commit £80m for Sancho, with BVB holding out for a further £20m in add-ons – a gap which is described as insignificant:
#MUFC pressing ahead with talks to sign Jadon Sancho. Hope rising a deal can finally be done with Borussia Dortmund.
But there is a gap on valuation, of around £20m as Dortmund stick closer to last summer’s price than expected. Add-ons discussed.https://t.co/JtvOtihEF8
